Archivio Tipografico was born with the intent of preserving, studying and exercising the culture of typography. The sharing of skills, spaces and resources keeps it a genuine place of graphic and typographic experimentation. For this reason, the organization of training courses and the opening of the typography spaces to the members are the fundamental instruments through which the association carries out its functions.
We organize directly or we invite guests to carry out workshops concerning traditional typographic disciplines: setting movable type, printing, layout and editorial design, typeface design and bookbinding basics. From the most basic to the most advanced courses, our approach is aimed at teaching fundamental concepts that also find application in a digital environment.
We organize courses customized in duration, topic and level of detail for groups, institutions, schools and universities. The workshops take place preferably in our print shop but for specific needs we are available to bring typefaces and printing equipment to a venue of you choice!
Group visits and demonstrations
We open the doors of the print shop to classes and large groups (minimum 4 people) for a guided tour of the space with a demonstration of letterpress printing. This type of activity requires a donation to help with the maintenance of the association and of the space.
Access to the printshop
We are available to welcome you in the printshop and follow you in the development of a personal project, of artistic or editorial kind, made with the equipments and presses of Archivio Tipografico. Access to the workshop is subject to being a member of the association and to donating a fee that covers the possibility of using the materials in the collection, insurance coverage for all the time you spend in our workshop and the assistance of a person from our team.
Immerse yourself in the historical library of Archivio Tipografico to explore the collection of specimens and catalogs of the major European printing foundries, Italian and international technical journals, art books, technical manuals of printing and typesetting, instruction manuals of printing machines and other unpredictable discoveries. Access to the library is subject to being a member of the association and donating a fee to support the preservation and archiving of the collection.
